What is the Basic Travel Allowance for a US citizen entering Australia on a 5 yrs working visa?

Category: Australian Travel Guide – Tags: – admin 10:16 pm

- Chosen by Voters Australia has no concept of a Basic Travel Allowance. If you come on a temporary work visa, you do not have to show anything relating to your financial circumstances apart from the requirement to show that you have health insurance. There is however no such thing as a 5 year working visa – temporary work visas are for a maximum of 4 years. If you have been asked by anyone for the money to pay a BTA, you are being scammed. BTAs do not exist – it is nothing more than a phrase used by scammers to extract money from their victims. 2 years ago 100% 1 Vote 2 people rated this as goodError processing request

How much alcohol and cigarrettes can I have in my suitcase when travelling from America to Australia?

Category: Australian Travel Guide – Tags: – admin 8:29 pm

- Chosen by Voters Not the duty free, okay, you could get away with an opened carton of cigs (10packs or less) in your suitcase, 3 packs on your person, a hip flask on your person or luggage (may not be allowed anymore).Buy your duty free in the US, its dearer in AU.The answer below is very accurate, that is the allowed amount. Any more and you may well face the consequences. What I have listed is "below the radar", and I do it 4 times a year. Your call. 5 years ago 100% 2 Votes

Im travelling around Australia, Any advice?

Category: Australian Travel Guide – Tags: – admin 3:40 pm

- Chosen by Voters Best advice I can give is do you're research before you leave home ….check out all you can on the net , get a Lonely Planet Guide & read it thoroughly & then correlate the places that interest you into a form of itinerary..If you simply come without any serious preparation you'll drift along & waste time…..you can always modify your plans along the way if you need to but having a plan will keep you on track… Source(s): J… 1 year ago 50% 2 Votes

Australia – 6 month gap year?

Category: Australian Travel Guide – Tags: – admin 3:02 pm

- Chosen by Voters Hey Grieg, I'm not sure where you're from, but I'm pretty certain that Americans can't obtain working holiday visas for Australia. If you're from the UK then you're completely eligible, but you'll need to obtain it before arriving here. STA Travel can arrange your visa at minimum cost. I do all my travel business through them and they're found in all major cities. Their staff are veteran backpackers with plenty of useful knowledge. You'll probably find Australia more expensive than your home country, and it's mostly more expensive than the UK, especially food shopping and alcohol, but restaurants are generally cheaper. For work I recommend a motel job. The more remote you go, the better it pays, in my experience at least. Just search for motels and resorts on Google, then contact the establishment. The first one I rang asked me to fly there that same night. I saved a small fortune at that motel (in remote WA), sometimes as much as £2,500 a month, and saved every penny because food and accommodation was free. The food was awesome as well.Only do fruitpicking if you're desperate for money or a second visa. It's awful work which sometimes pays well, but mostly terrible. People usually stay in working backpacker hostels/parks for this work, and lose a lot of their savings simply waiting for work and for paying extortionate room fees. I'm paying $150 plus $7 for every day I work, so about $190 a week. $50 for food, then whatever I spend on alcohol. I save about $200 a week, which will get me nowhere fast in Australia. Again, try and find a job in hospitality with free accommodation.Where to go: Young people flock to the east coast because it's where all the parties are. If you'd prefer to see outback and avoid the riffraff then NT and WA are your best bet. Either way, I highly recommend a trip to the 'red centre', Kakudu National Park near Darwin, the Kimberly in northern WA, and Tasmania. Definitely stop off in Asia. I thought Hong Kong was great. Thailand is also brilliant. The first useful step you could take is to buy a current Lonely Planet Australia. They'll tell you everything you need to know about everything. Don't settle for anything other than Lonely Planet.Good luck mate.PS. I liked Singapore but most people find it very boring, and understandably so. Say it Ain?t So: Baseball Star Bonds Indicted in Steroid Scandal

Category: Australian Sports – admin 10:48 am

By Anastacia Mott Austin

Aw, say it ain?t so, Barry.

The day some have feared (and some have waited for) for over 4 years has finally arrived, using the indictment of former San Francisco Giants superstar Barry Bonds inside the BALCO steroid scandal.

Earlier this year Giants fans watched, mesmerized, as Bonds broke Hank Aaron?s record for essentially the most career house runs, in the ripe old age of 43, no much less.

During testimony given in 2003 within the case against the Bay Location Laboratory Cooperative, commonly referred to as BALCO, Bonds denied ever knowingly ingesting or injecting illegal anabolic steroids. He also claimed that his personal trainer, Greg Anderson, in no way gave him illegal steroids either.

He mentioned in the time that he had taken two substances referred to as “the cream” and “the clear,” and that he was unaware of whether or not they had been steroids. Based on the feds, the substances qualify as performance-enhancing steroids.

Now he?s becoming charged with lying. The indictment reads, in component, “During the criminal investigation, evidence was obtained such as positive tests for the presence of anabolic steroids as well as other performance enhancing substances for Bonds along with other athletes.”

Anderson, for his component, has spent much with the past year in jail or on residence arrest for refusing to testify in the grand jury hearing concerning Bonds? involvement with steroids.

Owner and founder of BALCO, Victor Conte, served three months in prison following pleading guilty to distributing steroids. Furthermore, BALCO vice president James Valente and Patrick Arnold, the chemist who developed THG, each pleaded guilty to several charges related towards the case. Valente received probation, and Arnold served 4 months in jail.

The trail of corruption didn?t finish there. The defense attorney for two BALCO defendants, Troy Ellerman pleaded guilty to leaking confidential transcripts from the grand jury hearing towards the San Francisco Chronicle, after which denying it.

Apparently the indictment came as news to Bonds? attorney, John Burris. “I?m surprised, stated Burris, to Linked Press reporters. “But there’s been an effort to get Barry for a lengthy time. I’m curious what evidence they have now they didn’t have just before.”

Burris told the reporters that he could be telling Bonds with the news immediately.

Bonds won the National League?s Most Valuable Player seven times, and led the Giants towards the Globe Series in 2002.

Former baseball commissioner Fay Vincent told reporters that the news with the indictment was “a terrific blow towards the game.”

Fan reaction has been mixed. Some die-hard fans nonetheless insist that Bonds is innocent, although the majority of bloggers responding towards the news have no sympathy for him: “These high-profile athletes want to understand that they’re not above the law. Lie and cheat and you are going to go down,” posted 1 blogger.

Time will tell. Even Shoeless Joe Jackson insisted towards the quite finish that he wasn?t involved within the Black Sox scandal of 1920, telling reporters that the story with the dismayed kid who asked him, “Say it ain?t so, Joe,” was entirely created up.

Maybe, like Jackson, Bonds will continue to insist that he is innocent towards the quite finish, in spite of a mountain of evidence towards the contrary.
